tranny fluid change - I hope that's all I need!
My tranny has been getting fussier and fussier the past couple months and I have been waiting for some dry days when I have extra time to do a fluid change (I will replce the torque converter fluid, too). Both have been rare lately. Anyway, I hope that solves it. Just the other day it was very hesitant to change to 3rd gear and I've never had that.
Anyway, I am getting concerned to even drive it, so can I change the tranny fluid even when the fluid is cold, or should I really have just driven the car and warmed up the fluid (like a regular oil change)? |
Yes, you can change any time; just give the fluid more time to drain when it is cold. While you're at it, why not remove the pan and change the filter? Just remember not to wipe the valve body clean just because there is fluid on it! The smallest bit of lint will wreak havoc with your trans.
I am assuming that you will drain the torque converter by removing the plug on it? |
tranny fluid and filter change
shingleback,
thank you. Yes, I have a new filter, etc. No lint - that is for sure, and yes, I have drained the TC in the past and will do it again by removing the bolt (once I rotate the TC to the proper spot). I plan to do this tomorrow! Dan |
