Door vacuum lock pod

I am working thru my new toy and searching for what is likely a nice vacuum leak and am down to these door pods. How does one remove the threaded link to the lock mechanism on these? I thought they just turned and would unscrew but that doesn't seem to move them.

Hold the bottom of the shaft on the pod and place your fingers around the black collar and force the black collar all the way down. This will open the jaws allowing the rod to be pulled free. Once you have the rod attached to the new pod pull the collar back up in order to hold the rod securely.

Ah, I knew it had to be simple but didn't think of that. Thanks.
