diff replacement

I got a used diff to replace the one in my wagon. I'm thinking about replacing the axle seals and rear cover seal. I've already loosened the fill and drain plugs. Anyone have advice as to what else I should do to make the job go easier? I also will remove the rear cover and count the teeth on the gears b4 I do the swap. It's an 85 wagon and don't want to bother putting in the wrong diff. Any help will be appreciated.
Mike

For starters the 85 was a one year gear ratio at 288. Before that the turbodiesel wagons were 307, and the non turbo wagons were 346. Did you get a diff from an 85 wagon?

Its not a bad thing replacing the seals but there is a good chance they are fine if you don't. The benz diffs are very long lived.

What happened to yours?

In most cases you do not have to count teeth. The axel ratio is stamped on the housing at the back.
