What is the point of the Valet key?

I thought it was only supposed to unlock the car and start it, but not open the trunk or glove box. It does not open the glove box or operate the trunk lock, but you can still get in the trunk by unlocking the driver's side door master lock.

You need to manually lock the trunk with the regular key. Then the valet key would be effective

If you lock the trunk with your key, turning the lock all the way right or left (I forget which, the owner's manual says) then the valet key will not unlock the trunk. That way you can lock valuable stuff in the trunk and give the valet access to the other doors and the ignition.

Thanks for the info. I've never had a valet key come with any of my other Mercedes.

yeah I just keep the valet key in a safe place for a backup. And as for the trunk lock, isnt that just the most frustrating thing on these cars? It takes me about a minute to unlock the trunk (unless I use the power system) becuase I cant figuer out which way to turn it and do what with it
