124 Door Handle Lock Change Question

Has anyone changed the lock cylinder in a 124 door handle? I haven't figured out the trick.

I have the parts out of the doors.

Jeff,

This is a 5 minute procedure but you must have the keys to both cylinders. Check out the attachment below.

I'll look at the lock to see if that'll work, thanks.

Seems that the lock with the central-locking switch in it doesn't pull apart so easily, I'll check.

Problem is, I want my locks to be correct per VIN. But, I want to install the newer handles/locks with the chrome strip (like in your photos). If I order to my VIN, it will be the old-style plastic ones, if I order new-style it would have to be for a newer VIN. So, I bought the new-style handles, and would like to install my cylinders.

Thanks,

Uh-oh. So how exactly do we do this, if we do NOT have the keys for the new-style locks? I bought a set used, and I'm pretty sure keys weren't included...

:(

Take them in to a locksmith and have them picked, after you remove the roll-pin and springs.

With the springs off, he can pick it and leave it turned, or pull the cylinder.

Hopefully I'll beat you to it (and I pick my own locks).

I took the plastic clip and then the black switch off of the lock mechanism (central-locking switch), just un-clips, looks like it is necessary to pull the cylinder.

Key stuck in door lock

Hi,can I take out lock with a key stuck in it, also what size allen do I need to do this, Thanks Jeff

If the key is stuck inside but it will turn, you should be fine. I think it's a 3mm Allen. Overall it's pretty easy, using the procedure that Speedy posted above...

I tried this above procedure and there was a white wire attached to the cylinder which would not allow me to remove it does anybody know what to do in this case thanks

You can get a new/junkyard lock cylinder and use the old key with it, just stick the old key in and pull out the tumblers that dont sit flush. Many different keys will now work, but how many car thieves will actually try an MB key in the lock ? (and how many car thieves would steal this car??!) :)

The white wire is for the alarm switches. The white plastic switch is removable, you can pry it off the lock cylinder.

I am about to change door handles on my '87 300D, but got stuck... After i removed lock cylinder from the housing i can't fully insert it back! Not in new housing, not in my old one... Any tips? I spend about 4 hours trying to insert it back - no luck...

Thanks in advance!

Is it for the alarm or for the lock motor?

Sorry - it's believe it's actually for both the alarm, and also the central locking system.

You're doing this with the correct key in the lock?
