M-pump is a different injection pump used on the non-usa engines. It is special because it can be modified by Myna-Diesel in Finland to support upwards of 400hp. They charge about $2500-3000 and they can't do it to the American MW-pumps.

1. ) Is the euro M pump only better than the US IP when modified?

2.) at what point ( horsepower / psi or boost ) is the euro M pump needed?

another way of asking that question is : What is the stock US IP capable of?

3.) At what point is modification necessary to the euro M pump?

1. usually when you pay a few G for something you get something out of it. 140rwhp with stock turbo settings.

2. That is a good question, go look at the super turbo forums and check out the fuel adjustments

3. Another good question...

An M pump is a worthwhile upgrade for NA cars. Without the Myna mods I don't think it will pump enough fuel. Could be wrong.

1: Some people have said the euro engines feel more "peppy" than the US models. But, that can be caused by a number of maintenance and wear related problems with the vehicles they were comparing.

2: The MW-pump (US) is supposedly capable of 170-185hp. Nobody has yet dyno'd their vehicle after modifying it. The figure is based on the amount of rack travel gained by removing the limiter lever (~35%).

3: The M-Pump for the OM61x engine was only used on non-turbo euro models, turbo euro models got the same MW-pump the US did. So...it will likely have to be modified before you would see any power gains.

Sounds like you need a bunch more mods before you need the Euro M pump. ( on a turbocharged engine )

the cam on the euro non-turbos is different....in fact i know the euro 300d compared to a well taken care of stock turbo 300d to be just as fast if not faster off the line at speeds under 60mph .

I raced a member of this forum with my un-modifide euro 300d AUTO trans next to his turbo inline 6 american w124.....i was faster off the line ...in the middle of second and 3rd gear his turbo passed me....out of 3 races i won 1 of them a pretty good distance at one of the nor-cal meets.

That is because of rear end ratio. Your euro has a 3.46 while the W124 300D has a 2.65. Put a 3.46 in that W124 and I guarantee it would have run circles around your euro.

A lot less than the difference between a 3.46 and 2.65.

Get a US vs Euro 300D and it would be closer to a fair race.
