It would cut my power usage of my brake lights by almost 70%.....from 84 watts to about 23. That'd be awesome.

That was my reason for wanting one too....brighter + almost no power drain.
Wonder whether to get the red or spring the extra $5 for white...would it be brighter?
Also note that there is a (tiny) volume discount beginning with 2 units.

I was wondering that too....I am betting white would be brighter....it'd cost me a fortune to replace 4 bulbs with those.....$132! You could justify it as a safety purchase though....the brighter/faster the brake lights the better...But I already have a big LED bar third light at the top....so its probably not necessary.....

I don't know of anyone that's actually used them. I plan to test them out maybe this coming spring when I can get to it. I don't foresee any problem based on my other experiences with ledlight.com. The front and side firing placement of the LEDs makes them a perfect replacement for the brake lights. That makes the dash bulb work as well as they do too. The 74 wedge base bulbs are front firing only which is an issue. Also I wish the festoon LED they offer had some side firing LEDs too. It would help overcome the slight "spotlight" effect the ones I bought give.

For the interior I think the white color gives the brightest and cleanest appearance. You need to use the same color LED as the lens you plan to use it behind. That way you get the most dramatic light enhancement.

That's correct. I was at this guys site on ebay and he had all these part numbers down. I'm at work now (and can't go to ebay, only mercedesshop, yeah go figure ) but if you go search I'm pretty sure you'd find the same site. If I remember correctly, the reverse light was about $7 to $9 a piece. Probably not worth my time cos I have to factor in shipping to Canada, but it might be worth for some of you guys. Its sure looks bright, if anything!

I go out to measure the bulb enclosures, and find I have no brake lights at all. Tail lights are fine.

The brake light bulbs work, and it's not a fuse issue (same fuse does brake and turn signal lights) so I've got something else to track down. Always a new adventure.

Amazingly, this car just passed state inspection 2 weeks ago.

I ordered 4 of the LEDs for my instrument clusters in the 240D and 300Sd from www.vleds.com via their ebay store. Item #280176560432. Total price for 4 bulbs shipped was $24.77.

They made a tremendous difference in the brightness and illumination of the cluster. I also purchased some aluminum duct tape and lined the recess on the back of the cluster where the light mounts.

These guys in Hong Kong may be an option for LEDs if you aren't in a big hurry:

http://www.dealextreme.com/search.dx/search.festoon

They have some interesting and attractive deals. They ship everything via Airpost (prices include shipping- how can they do it?)and it usually takes about 2 weeks or so to arrive.

I ordered a 2-pack of taillights from v-led.com:
"NEW! RED 18 LED BRAKE/TURN/TAIL LIGHT BULB 1156 1073"
The part number is 1156_18_R, but their search function is broken and if you put that part number in it doesn't find anything. Instead, in the menubar on the left click on "1156 LED", then Red LED. It's the one for $18.99 a pair. Shipping and insurance were like $5.

For the festoon bulbs I went to ledlight.com:
Quote:
Festoon Glass LED Light
Festoon Glass LED Light Color : Super White
Festoon Glass LED Light Size : 10mmx41mm 9 LEDs
The item number is 32445

3 of them come to $23.58. USPS shipping is $4.99.

Unfortunately their web page is returning an error right now so I can't place an order.

A note from the dealextreme.com forums: If you are replacing festoon bulbs, remember that these are LEDs and polarity matters. If they don't work when you put them in one way, turn them around.

That's especially good to remember while you have the cluster out. Test everything before you reassemble.

I don't think the light out indicator will work if you replace with LEDs. Then again you don't have to be concerned with LEDs burning out.

I found that's also true for the cluster bulbs.

He posted this issue in a separate thread and came to realize it was because his key was off....
