Advice needed
Picked up a 300CD that needs way more work than I can do. Trannie is shifting funny it revs before each gear but does shift. 3 out of 4 windows do not work right. Needs a motor mount and front shocks. Car is a Florida car no rust with a good motor. What should I do? 261K on the clock but motor had been rebuilt.

These vehicles usually need constant work for two years when you buy one. After you replace all the parts that have worn out after 20 years, you can finally enjoy the vehicle a bit. My SD is currently in this condition...........and it's taken $4K worth of parts.
So, if you're not inclined to spend the time and money to correct all the "issues", I'd suggest that you sell the vehicle. I'm sure you can recover the amount that you currently have into it. From here on.........it's all downhill. None of us can sell the vehicle for the amount of the parts plus the purchase price. If you pay for labor.............you'll drown. |

If you don't have the time to learn the steps required...........and perform the work necessary..........then, it's not for you. If there was a qualified shop somewhere that won't simply say "You need a new transmission".........the repair is not more than a couple of hours work. But, such shops don't exist.........all you find is a bunch of retards who couldn't diagnose a transmission problem if their lives depended on it. |

Search the forum
I'n not yet good at searching the forum but that's what you need to do. I found by accident a thread that would give you some hope that the transmission problems might actually be vacuum problems.

I was going over the SDL today trying to figure out what it still needs and I'm actualy kind of surprised by how short the list is getting. Every winter its a bit shorter!

- purchased April 2007 $2800.00 - New pads & rotors all around and front bearings - $300.00 - Diagnose/replace 3 of 5 ACC switch-over valves - $650.00 - ALL fluids & filters - $300.00 - Valve adjustment - Free - Rear shocks (Comforts) - $130.00 + 3hrs to Benz Brothers to drill the right rear one out.-$250.00 - Pioneer cd tuner/Kicker 6x9's & Polk 4x6's - $350.00 and an afternoon. - 5 Glow plugs 3 days ago - $70.00 & 2.5 hours of my time. - New wheels and tires - $800.00 - belts & cooling flush - $50.00 - Oil cooler hoses this weekend - will have them tomorrow for $130.00 (WorldPac) I did all except valve adjustment, switch-over valves, rear shocks & trans service. On the list: - A/C compressor/dryer/expansion valve - before the Texas heat kicks in - $350.00 - Front & rear calipers and brake hoses - probably cost me around $350 going directly thru WorldPac (benefits of working at a dealer) - Rebuild the front end - about $900 in parts (same as above) I'll do the a/c & brakes. Someone else will do the front end...
