How many dash bulbs do I need?
I am pulling the dash cluster to repair the odometer on my 85 300 TDT and while I'm in there I want to replace all the bulbs. Fastlane has the push in bulbs and the bulbs with the black base but I don't know how many of each I need.
Thanks, Chris |
I am about 90% sure it needs 2. I am sure someone will chime in if I am wrong
|
For just the cluster its two. The other part of the dash for the klima and switches needs like 5 or 6 of the little teeny bulbs. (1.2 watt)
|
An '82 300D has eleven lamps in the cluster itself. Your model is probably pretty close to that.
|
??? Where are there 11 lamps? I count 4 for the klima....1 for the fiber optic spider....2 for the instrument cluster....and one for the shifter. Thats only 7? where are the other 4?

I'm going to take a guess. Just the ones that are burned out.:D

Cluster illumination: 2
Turn signals: 2 Brakes: 2 Seat belt: 1 Pre-glow: 1 Battery: 1 Low fuel: 1 Hi beam: 1 Two for illumination, nine for indicators. |

Klima, climate control unit, CCU. I'm sure it has some other names too. OK, I've caused enough confusion for one day, I'm going to work now.:) |
Klima is the climate control panel. If you only want to replace the two gauge face illumination bulbs, you can do it without disconnecting the cluster. You need to take it out completely to get to the other bulbs. The larger ones are #2821 and the smaller bulbs are #2721. Consider using LEDs since even the correct wattage stock bulbs can melt the plastic they are housed in.

Check out this thread. I posted links to all the bulbs that will fit your car with no modification. You can replace all the 2721 bulbs with a 74 Wedge Base LED. I plan to put those in soon myself.:) |
