Unhappy 1979 300D - Servo leaking coolant

Not sure if this is a replacement unit or not, but its leaking coolant from where the plastic sidewall of the servo meets the plastic bottom of the unit. No leaks from the hoses. I bought the car last friday the 15th, and from them until now it has leaked about a 1/4 bottle of coolant, I just refilled the radiator this afternoon. I have coldweld on the leak, but not sure if it will hold.

Is this a common problem ? Any other fixes ?
Anyone installed the upgrade kit with solenoids ?
How difficult was that ?

Note, the heat and ac both work fine. The servo is functioning, for now, but its just leaking coolant.

Thanks in advance,
Marty

Hmm, close inspection of the unit is in order, see if there are any repair kits for the leak. is it a crack or just worn gaskets? perhaps dissasembly of the unit and inspection of the leak will show how it's built. I have a torn down one, and a good one. let me know if you want it. I can take pics of the torn down one for you if you don't wanna just rip into a functioning one that leaks...

Common problem. I'd replace it with an aluminum bodied rebuild or the computerized kit. Someone here has installed the kit and been happy.

Their is a hairline crack in the unit on the left side of it ( when standing in front of the engine looking in ). But its leaking at the bottom, not from the crack that is above it.

Holding for now

I put Waterweld on the leak this afternoon, and it seems to be holding.
I'm bidding on a used servo with the aluminum bottom housing, so hopefully that will work if this one totally fails.
I'm trying to avoid spending $650 on the digital upgrade for now.

When replacing it, can i just drain my coolant, disconnect the hoses, the wire harness, unbolt it and yank it out ?

Will I need to adjust the new unit to be in sync with my thumbwheel ?

I too, have the evil servo. It finally gave up after a coolant flush, if you get a rebuilt one, make sure you remove it before flushing your coolant or gunk will get into the servo.

And, why bother with the 1970's chrysler technology when you can get the latest unwired tools upgrade kit for the servo. It's 495 at adsitco and they are an authorized reseller, meaning you get the 5 years warranty from the manufacturer. It's 700 from the manufacturer so check with adsitco to see if the price and what is included is correct.

Thread revival here. That is a really cool site. Has anyone here used their rebuilt servo? It is the same price as the Unwired replacement. What might be the advantages/disadvantages of replacing with Unwired vs a rebuilt original?
