What happens when ps pump is run dry?

I sold an 85 300 turbo ~2 years ago. The new owner has come back to me for a warranty claim!

Looks like ps line has ruptured and lost most of the ps fluid. The car lost all steering assistance. I cut off the leaking section of hose and refilled w/ steering fluid (non MB) and all works fine but the pump makes ugly noises at idle (similar to a bad hood vibration) and quiets down as soon as rpms rise above idle.
Is the pump going to self distruct soon?

Never sell an old car to an aquaintance!

Later model MBs can require that the steering wheel be cranked all the way in each direction to properly purge the system of air. Might give that a try and top off with oil.

if it's like the ones we build for gm and chysler models i'd say it's got a ton of air in it or the fcv area eather got some trash stuff thru it or scratched the sidewall. nothing to be converned with may be noiser than normal but ah it won't blow up maybe flush out all the old fluid in a few thousand miles might work.

That`s kind of ballsy to come back after 2 yrs blaming you for a for a 23 yr hose failure. you better get ready for a few more come backs from them.

About time to find a new aquaintance. Is it relatives? HMMM, ur stuck forever. with relatives you have the inlaws and outlaws, we have them too.
sold a 1/2 ton pu to a guy, it had 120000 miles on it. 6 mo later he came back and said I owed him a new tire and rim. the bead of the rim had a crack about 3 in long and was rusty, and the continuation of the crack that was shiney. it folded in and blew out his tire. said I knew it was that way, that`s why I sold it to him. told him to go suck a pickle.

there are two hoses, one high pressure and the low pressure one. The low pressure one had fluid seaping through the rubber. I think it was $40.00. don`t want to know what the other one costs$$$.

Warranty? Yeah, oua sight, outa mind. The drive away gaurantee.

the ONLY way I would warranty an old car would be with a service contract. meaning bring the car to ME for service every 1500 or 3000 miles for oil changes AND any items I deem needing service, and THAT service would be warranted.
I have actually given 100,000 mile warranties that way with some of my used vehicles. I am happy to warranty in that way... continuous income is nice... and I know my vehicles and what they need.

He is a college roomie from the mid 80's.
I charged him dinner for my family and a 12 pack. Also included was a promise to show him how-to-change-tranny fluid using my car as the example.

I hate going under the car and getting all dirty. Plus last tranny change had the TC drain plug at 6 o'clock so that's never going to happen again this life time.

if all air has been bled, then the pump is trash. If he drove it for any extended period of time its going to be toast. Good thing is, they can be had all day long at your local pull-a-part.

You should have sold the car with a shadow warranty. When the shadow's gone, so is the warranty

lol, that reminds me of the lady who asked me to rotate her tires so all the valve stems were pointing up "so it would be easier to check them"

just rotate it by the tc, much easier to do and see to make sure it lines up right.

I think he just meant that he was lucky to have it land in the perfect spot the last time, and what are the odds of it happening that perfectly again? Actually the odds are just the same regardless of what happened the last time, but it still seems less likely.
