126/603 QUestion
Underneath the air cleaner in my '86 126 with 603 engine there is a small bottle like container and some kind of inline filter. Both have vacuum or some kind of lines running to them.
What is this and what does it due? Is any maintenance needed? P E H

All the stuff to the left on this diagram is related to EGR and ARV. Take it off, remove the large hose and filter, which vents to cabin. Also, block off the (now unused) two ports off the five-way fitting off the vacuum pump.

Yep, I need to get rid of all that crap on mine, the EGR has been removed for testing for years and the ARV is getting the AX soon. More vacuum parts to leak!

I posted pics a while back on here of what to remove and how. Dave also posted the part number for the three outlet "F" shaped vac element for the vac pump.
You'd be surprised how clean and organized the bay is then.

I give up, what is ARV?
Could of the AVR or EGR components be the source of an engine oil leak I have in that area? P E H

None of them would be leaking oil. An oil leak on that side would probably be related to the turbo.

ARV = air recirculation valve. It's that thing attached to the compressor housing with 3 10mm head bolts. It leaks air from the compressor outlet to the compressor inlet to soften the onset of boost, or some such garbage. Does something to warm up the trap too IIRC.
An all too common oil leak is the head gasket by the #1 exhaust runner. Sixto 87 300D
