Another om 606 nailing... Question?

hello everyone, I'm trying to remove my injector on a 99 e300, after many tries to solve the nailing problem that i get after the cycle of the glow plugs. first thing in the morning the engine sounds great but after two minutes. you start getting the nailing problem.
this problem used to go away after a long trip or when the temp. on the engine was a little higher than 80 C. however after changing the return lines and running some diesel purge, the nailing wont stop and IMO is of a higher pitch.

I'm thinking of removing the injectors to have them clean and pop test, but do you really have to remove the IM? or can you just move the fuel lines to the side? Thanks...

and also do you need anything other than the heat shields when installing the injectors?
