low dollar boost guage
 

I was wondering. in looking around for a boost gauge I find they are really expensive. Is there any reason I could not use a T off the ALDA line before the overboost safety valve and run a line to a liquid filled gauge like http://www.mcmaster.com/ part number 3845K5 for $25

I am using a $3 30 psi gauge. no need for liquid filled, IMHO.

I ran 1/4 nylon tubing to it. all told, less than $10.

I think I would be happy paying $25 if it had a backlight, anyone know a cheap guage with a backlight? im looking for a low dollar EGT setup right now

http://www.egauges.com/ ...try eGauges ... huge selection. I got a VDO for under $40; I really don't think that's too bad and the gauge looks and works great. I got the 15 PSI Vision Chrome. I bought a tubing/fitting kit at Napa for some piddly amount so the whole shebang came out to around $40.

I installed the JCWhitney one linked above.

Backlight powered off the headlight switch when lights turn on...

I know I could have tapped a dash light, but I liked going straight to the headlight switch, seems cleaner.

Put a simple tee at the alda line after boost protection.
Ran line into cabin. Very easy.

The gauge at Whitney now $15 ??? I paid the full $27.

I have a nice Cyberdyne fuel pressure guage I was going to install in the Jeep when I was having pressure issues. Turns out it was a different problem so it is just sitting. I might try that tomorrow and see how it works. It is a blue Cyberdyn, might look nice in the left dash air outlet???? I was thinking this was a lot more complicated than it really is.

Id recommend egauges too. They were good.

I still have yet to make my billet aluminum bezel for the two gauges (ashtray delete)

well the Cyberdyne fuel pressure gauge did not work. I guess the pressure is too low for it. I like the egauge selection. I am going to try to find one that mimics the MB dash and put it in place of the ashtray as someone here suggested.

i've also bought the sun-pro ones from pep boys and the like for $15, but theyre vac/boost gauges but lighted.

My recommendation would be AutoMeter.:D Good quality guages made here in Wisconsin U.S.A so you know it won't fall apart like typical chinese crap.:mad: I got mine including all necessary wiring and tubing plus fittings for about $45.00 including tax. Napa carries Stewart Warner guages too and those are some of the best!:D

Same here, although mine will be zebrano to match the other console pieces. Have been working on refinishing the other pieces and haven't gotten a chance to get the zebrano veneer ... tough to find in anything other than massive quantities.

Any of the autoparts store gauges will have a backlight, and they'll be around 20 bucks or so. The quality is probably pretty suspect though compared to a VDO($35 online).

I have an autometer one that measures both vacuum and boost. My complaint is that the travel of the needle is relatively small since it measures to 20" vacuum and 30psi of boost on the same gauge face....but its backlit, looks nice and is high quality. Got it (and a volt gauge) off ebay for about $25-30 apiece a few years ago. Maybe eventually I'll swap it out with one like the VDO pictured in one of the above posts....probably not though. :D

I connected mine with rubber vac hose with a T connector into the boost line before the switchover valve. I also used an orifice connector with a very small opening so in case the line in the dash leaks or the gauge leaks, it won't bleed off all my boost and cut my fuel delivery. Gauge works perfect. My car has around 11-12psi at full throttle under load.
