Is that $7500 a black car?
Indeed, it is a black car. And to be fair, the car is very nice. But there were a few details that were just begging to be fixed before you would pay $7500 for the car. The owner bought the car in California and drove it back. . . his wife was wanting to get one to convert to WVO. I guess she had a hard time adjusting to driving the car, since she has a few year old CLK as her daily driver, so the car is back up on the block. He's put some money into the car, so that's probably why he doesn't want to let it go for much less.

Having searched comparable listings on eBay, I would say 5 - 6k tops is closer to the "market" value of the car (but I'm no expert :-)).

Thanks Jimmy, and others above. . . . great info from all. I lucked out stumbling into this forum, I feel much more confident in my ability to hold out and pay a fair price thanks to you guys. If we ever meet in person, I owe you all a beer / coffee / tea / insert your favorite legal drug here.

You have a good supply of junk yards for parts, plus just a lot of fellow Texans that stay in pretty good touch. The only real ender is rust and I guess a worn out engine. Don't fear the W123 with over 200k miles as most will be in that range. Plus, the odometers fail a huge percentage of the time compared to other vehicles.
You are going to find something of Craigslist or here on the forum. The fact that you are not in an immediate hurry is way to your advantage. You just have to beat Dan, Dave, Randy and the Hitman to them when they come up.....

I just tried the Edmunds link. It doesn't go back far enough for my 240D, and it just says N/A for the value on my 300D in average condition.

BTW, I bought the 300 for $800 and have had to do a bit of work to it-rebuilt the front end and the rear brakes, and replaced both half-shafts in addition to regular wear items.

The 240 was $480 but was in a condition that any sane buyer would run from.

300D and a 300SDL

Hi Joshua.

I have a 300D for sale and also a 300SDL (my current daily driver) for sale. I bought the 300D to fix up for my wife........lesson #1 learned: Never buy an old car for a woman to drive; let her talk ME into buying it for her. Anyway, I have them posted on Craigslist in Memphis and linked in over on the Craigslist thread.

I have a lot more photos and all the records on everything I've done to both cars.

Also, if you find a car in the Memphis area and need someone to go test drive it or check it out for you, send me a private message. I'll do most anything to help others on here --- I was brand new a year ago and got lucky by finding this site.
