How does this rear 2.88 diff sound?
 

I'm parting out a 1985 300TD http://www.peachparts.com/shopforum/mercedes-benz-used-parts-sale-wanted/200398-1985-300td-wagon-parts.html
and have someone intersted in the 2.88 diff. I know its hard to make out noises in videos but what do you thinking of this one here

The tranny whines when its cold so its hard to tell what noises are happening. I'm going to get down near the diff and listen with my wife on the throttle.

Could always put the diff in my 240D Automatic. :eek:

I'm thinking that you'll get a different sound when the car is "under load", wheels on the ground and the diff straining to push the weight of the car.

True there is no load and I was/am wondering about that also. The CV's are at a normal angle as I took the rear tires off, the brakes off, and set the car down on the "trailing arms" so the rear suspension is compressed.

Yes I've been in the predicament before. And in fact I've had to resort to getting under the car and listen while it is running at speed in my driveway. You can tell it was coming from the diff. Was that smart way of doing it? :eek:... I don't know but I was confident I had the car secured and I am here today. Just make sure it is not going to rock off the stands!
