Will Not Start!

Yesterday, I changed my veggy fuel filter and of course forgot to fill it up with either Veggy or diesel. Later that day, I drove the car around and when it got to the right temperature, I switched it over to Veggy.

Of course, the car ran our of fuel, so I attempted to switch it back over to diesel, but the car still died. After repeated attempts, I cannot start the car on the veggy and the diesel as well. I searched all last night and found a few things, but I do not understand why the car wont even start on the diesel.

This has happened once before, and I was then able to get the car started on diesel. The car was running PERFECTLY yesterday on diesel and veggy and now it wont start. The car sounds like it is about to turn over, but nothing.

The glowplugs were recently changed and I have had no fuel issues before. Any suggestions or help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks again.

Sounds like the IP is full of air. With the fuel system set to diesel, give your primer pump about 50 strokes, then try to start again.

Went back out there and did about 50-60 strokes and the car felt like it wanted to start better, but still nothing. I have smoke, which means I have heat, but still nothing. Any other way to bleed the system of air?

You could loosen the injector lines at each injector and then crank the engine to see if you're getting fuel there. If not, then pump the primer some more.
As a last resort, you could try to pull start it, or take the air cleaner cover off and try spraying a few short bursts of WD40 into the intake tube while a helper cranks the engine. Use a very small amount though, don't flood it with WD40 as it doesn't compress well.

Is it possible to over pump the primer? I just dont understand why it would be this hard to start. It was the veggy filter that was not filled up with fuel, not the diesel fuel filter. I will see what happens with that. Thanks.

I finally got it to start. Seems that there was just THAT much air in the system. Thank you for all your help!

You have to remeber that these old diesels do not include a self priming system that is any good for massive ammounts of air. So when we put dry filtes on, Diesel or other, and charge the system with air, We have to get it out.
