bosio injectors
I have a 1983 300CD (sorry i didn't mention it in my previous post about the valve cover) I have adjusted the valves and did a purge i am still having some problems with the engine smoking and since it has 300,000 miles on it is more than likely in need of some new injectors has anyone installed these injectors on a 300 CD 617 engine i belive, would i be money ahead getting these or just be better off buying all new injectors from bosch??? thanks in advance

If the injectors are original at 300k, yes, they need to be replaced/rebalanced etc. The choice of nozzles is up to you. We have the bosio nozzles in both of our SD's, it got rid of excess smoke, and low end torque is improved significantly. Some say the Bosch nozzles have been improved over the severe issues people were having with them....but the Bosios are of known-good quality....and they're made in Europe still, which is better than India. :) Personally I'd go with Bosio....but I suppose its up to you.
Your symptoms you describe sound like classic worn out injector issues. Also, check inside the pre-chamber when you pull the injectors to make sure they all still have the "pintle ball" in place. You may need a flashlight to see in there. It looks like a small ball floating in space inside the prechamber. If any are missing, the pre-chamber will need to be replaced also. |
Ok, Changing the prechamber requires pulling the head? And what is the purpose of that ball?

The Bosch made in India spray nozzles so far do not have a good reputation. If you by Bosch rebuilt injectors or the sprey nozzles from a Parts place you will not know where the spray nozzles is made (unless the add tells you where they are made).
If you buy the nozzles seperately and have a local place do the rebuilding you at least know what spray nozzles you have in your injectors and you have someone local to take them back to if there is a problem. When the injectors are "pop tested" they look at the spray pattern of the fuel comming out of the injector, they check and if rebuilding them set the nozzle opening pressure (the pressure when the fuel will star spurting out of the injector), they set all of the injectors within a specifided opening pressure rang, they also do a test where the injector is brought up to 200psi below the opening (pop) pressure and it is not supposed to seep/leak out of the nozzle (if it dose leak there is a min spec for that) this checks the sealing surface in injector pintel to nozzle seat, and they will also be looking to see if there is any fuel leaking around the injector nut where it serews into the body. During the rebuild process the precision surfaces inside the injector will be lapped to ensure that they are flat and will seal when the injector is assembled. |
I bought the Bosch from the dealer ( India), and the guy who rebuilt them for me said he could've gotten me Kraut ones for a few bucks less. :( ( $28 a pop). With a name like Buchenhagen, my rebuilder was not happy using the Indian ones. Nevertheless, they all shot fine.

if you are taking them into a local shop, call ahead and see what they sell/ recommend. as wingas posted^ they may be able to get quality parts for similar $$, plus, then if you have issues, they should resolve them no?? asked...
