617 old style primer pump 84 300SD

I have air/fuel ... looks like more air than fuel, bubbling up the see through line from my old style primer pump to the big filter. Just a little non moving bubble in the first small filter. Do you think the pump is leaking in air? Or leaking in at that very hard to get at nut down there on the forward side of the pump, (can't seem to get hold of it to see if I can tighten it.
Would you just order a new new style pump if it was your car?

Yes, replace it with the new type. 99.99% chance it will fix the leak.

Agreed, the one there is pretty old. I used vice grips to remove, and a stubby open end to install the new one, make sure you use the copper crush washer.

I believe that that nut you spoke of on the forward side of the pump is on the presssureized side of the pump and would leak fuel out if there was a leak.

Thanx all,

I thought I had read that the new style was better all around. And D911- what you're saying makes sense so the suction leak is probably in the primer pump. Add that to the parts list I guess
