There is no Glow Fuse in the "Glow Relay"
Savannah
West Coast parts Gurus (Hollywood+Reno) say you cannot order a "Glow Fuse" Only a new Relay #007545 9932 There are 16 in CONUS. Dummy (Me)finally looked at FSM wiring diagram for 124128 Glow system. Glow Relay is fused through #7 in the fusebox and X4 in the terminal block terminal 30. So, Have you tested your glow plugs with a meter? Starbrite Startron Enzyme Diesel Fuel conditioner...Stuff breaks down Algae (after killing it)so the corpse(s) can pass through the fuel filters easier. [I've no connection with Starbrite] Last edited by compress ignite; 03-03-2008 at 07:33 PM. |

Mercedes Fuse primer
Old style ceramic looking fuses with the Aluminum fuseable strip
(We all know and LOVE/HATE them from the W123's,W124's and W126's) can be so sneaky. The fuseable strip can have a hairline crack (INVISIBLE) and look good,But be bad.The only definitive test is Continuity with MM. Any Corrosion between the Aluminum strip Fuse and the Copper fuse holders (Invisible) can prevent proper contact. Solution: 1.Clean the copper fuse holders(gently) 2.Throw away All those old ALUMINUM fuses. 3.Get new fuses with either copper strips or SS strips. Then either #4 or#5 , But not both. 4.Tiny, Tiny dab of WD40 on the "Seats" (holes for pointy ends of fuse) of the fuse holders. 5.[All Disclaimers ever mentioned within the Cosmos apply to All life forms] Professional Technique, do not attempt without without personal supervision by A+P Mechanic, with current FAA certification. Surgically clean fusebox, fuse holders,fuses...Then apply Boeshield (T9). Term 30 is at the other end of that BIG red insulated cable terminated on that 10mm nut on the glow relay. See if you have power to the glow plugs (and your plugs test out OK) before you go plundering around after the other end of THAT cable. (Hint,That 10mm nut on the Glow relay that terminates the red cable is the HOT lead for the relay and has Battery voltage [and Amps] at ALL times a charged Battery is installed in the car.) Thank You!
If I had not gotten involved I would not have learned about the difference in
Glow Relay(s)...Until (with my luck) some cold, rainy, windy night during a hurricane evacuation, the relay failed and there I'd be trying to force My backup Fuse into the nonexistent Fuse portion of the Relay. I still have to find out how this relay is protected(and if it's a "One Time Only" failure rate[IE replace upon overvoltage/overamperage draw]) |

When you find out how the relay works let me know.

block heater
O.K. maybe it didn't get one.I found mine tucked up under the right hand
bumper. It's still possible that the heat coil is in the block and you just need the cord. #47 s are the left hand side plugs and #35 is the right hand side. So if it's there it'll have replaced one of them. Gute Nacht! Picture courtesy of "RU" website. Ist dieses Bild urheberrechtlich geschützt? Last edited by compress ignite; 03-04-2008 at 07:42 PM. |

No Fuse(Glow Relay)?
'Talked to MBNA technical in Montvale,N.J.'Was told that there is a fuse outside
the fuse box.On the left front wheelhouse. 'Parts at Mercedes Benz N.Y.,N.Y.(a "Factory" owned store) says they think there is a fuse outside the fuse box.(BUT they cannot find it on the EPC,WIS or anything else that they have).Very nice people, faxed me two pages of what they have for electrical schematics.(Still no Fuse). BRAAAAAAACK ! Wrong Answer by both parties! Electrical schematic in the FSM only shows fuse #7 in the fusebox (red 16 amps) ,which is not in the power (HOT) circuit for terminal block number 30.For there to be a high power(Amps)(30?,40?,80?)fuse there must be cable(s) connecting to it.WELL...there ain't no bread crumbs in the forest!(no wiring to HA fuse) So, unless there is a HA fuse inside the Glow relay itself??? I'm on a fool's errand of my own choosing.(Off to dis-assemble the Relay internally) |

Let me know what you find, I wont be doing any work on my car today. The temp here today is 28 deg. Car is in the garage but still to cold, I am going to try to get you a picture of the other 2 fuse boxes. My wife is home today, she knows how to post them. Also I noticed that my glow plug light does not even come at all anymore.

Fuses?
The one on the left has a standard "Spade" type plug in fuse? 'With only one
of the two slots filled? 'Nothing like that on mine(might be seat heater) The one on the right looks like a strip type ,secured by those two screws? (Is the strip Aluminum looking?) it's the Cabin Blower fan Fuse 30 Amp. Last edited by compress ignite; 11-01-2008 at 03:06 AM. |
