I DO DENY THE HYPE. The only part in contact with the fuel is the plungers. Once again, if it WAS an issue we would be seeing failing pumps all over the place.

the processing of ULSD DOES affect the lubricity of the fuel, this cannot be debated
The fact that lubricity is reduced is not, what IS debated is HOW MUCH it affects it. The answer is, not enough to harm anything.

You forgot the oil companies, can we deny their greed as well....LOL, bottom line, who knows? To each his own, and in my own, 2-cycle oil, 1oz to every 1 gallon....;)

I'm highly doubt a station is adding lubrication to any fuel...

I'm a doper

I add 12 oz. vegetable oil (food aisle at Wal-Mart) at every fillup. Maybe it's placebo effect or maybe it's lubricating the pump better. Who knows.

Not to disagree so much as to say that I sure do like the way the car runs with a little biodiesel mixed in with the ULSD...

What greed? It's business and they are very good at it.

You're 100% right. The station does not add any additives, those are added at the refinery as the truck is being filled.

Don't worry. I sure like the reduced MPG and slower burn rate too.

Just wondering if I want to add ATF to my 300SD, what type is recommended? I've read that the new ATF doesn't lubricate as well as the old stuff, so I found some old stuff "Type F" that states its for '78 and older model vehicles...would this be better? And also, is the 2-cycle oil just as good or better for lubrication? I know alot of people say just out diesel fuel additive in, but all the additives say "ULSD compatible" which leads me to believe it was manufactured w/ emissions in mind not necessarily maximum lubrication.....I care more about my injection pump and vehicle performance.....Any input?

I'm under the impression that ATF is added to fuel, occassionally, in order to clean the fuel system. ATF is not added specifically for lubrication purposes. I was told to do this by a couple of indy mechanics in the area. That said, I haven't burned anything but diesel fuel.

ForcedInduction 03-04-2008 06:52 PM

ATF is an old mechanics tale that cokes injectors.

Yeah, I know. Though the difference for me MPG-wise is small...20.5 v. 20.4 something. I'm lucky to get 21 mpg on any tank of fuel.

Get what? That capitalism works?

No need. My pump has been running perfect on ULSD from day 1.

Nobody loves capitalism more than me sir. This post is about FUEL ADDITIVES, if you want to talk politics we should move to the "General Discussion" forum.;)

You brought it up.

I add 12oz of Marvels Mystery Oil to every tank. Engine runs noticeably smoother.

What are the benefits to adding Marvels Mystery Oil to your fuel??
