603.961 KKK Specific Questions
I've done my best to search but a lot of the info I've found is not positively identified with the Garrett/KKK specifically... and I'm not eager to do the "just pull it apart and see what's in there" method here. I've got a few specific turbo-related questions about my KKK equipped 300SDL.
1. Is a KKK turbo likely to have a wastegate spring/action that gets gunked up or otherwise nonfunctional, and therefore be partially stuck open? 2. Is there an easy way to disassemble, clean and/or check for damage in the wastegate on this KKK, and then put it all back? 2a. If it isn't easy, does the exhaust manifold have to come out? What all specifically does actually have to be removed to get to this beast? 3. Is it possible to tweak, tune, adjust, etc, this wastegate, while the turbo is completely installed, or do I have to go through the entire disassembly/removal process every time I want to make an adjustment? If I get the thing working I'll need to get the pressure just right. I'm not trying to blow the engine up, I'd be happy if I could get 12psi give or take out of it. 4. Assuming there's oil going through that general system and one suspects it might be seals within the turbo somewhere allowing the oil to enter the air crossover pipe, intake manifold, everything else, also letting it ooze out every leak it can find on the turbo/exhaust side of things... is it possible to replace such seals within a KKK unit? 4a. Source for seals? Thanks. |
