1976 "300d"

I can't seem to find any info on this car. My girlfriend just purchased it, and I'm looking for basic chassis information.

The car has a 617 under the hood. No Gorilla knob for glowplugs.

I'm lost. Maybe mis-badged? vin (as it's written on the retail order) is 115-114-12033142.

If it's really a 115.114, it a '75 or '76 300D. If it's a '72, it should be a 220D with a 615 engine.

Once upon a time in a used car lot...

I was looking at a (what I thought) was a 1989 300E Sportline....

What it turned out to be was a 260E with the rear badge changed and the Sportline logo placed on the front fenders....

How did I know?...I checked the VIN...

Of course, the salesperson knew nothing about it...go figure...

BTW...I did not buy the car.

Just my 2¢ worth...

Could it be German?

it is indeed a 5 cylinder diesel. I'll check the door plate before any money is exchanged (she dosnt pick it up until Friday)

the Russian EPC lists a 220D 3.0, could somebody have switched it to a latter 300d tags just to show it has the bigger, meaner 5 cylinder?

A google search of "220d 3.0" picks up a few mentions of the car on German forums that I can't really understand. Maybe it did exist, or was a special custom vehicle? Weird.

"115.114 240 D 3,0"

from the russian EPA site here: http://www.detali.ru/cat/oem_mb0.asp?TP=1

It looked like a 617. valve cover looked similar, but the intake mani was rounder than I remember seeing an a 617 (I've never owned one)

I wonder what the title will say.

You're right, the "240D 3.0" is a OM617.910
Differs from the "300D" OM617.912 and later by having, as you noted, a rounder intake manifold and the oil filter is located under the servo pump instead of back of the IP.
Great engine if you want to convert a column shifted W108 or W111 to OM617.

Wasn't the 240D 3.0 produced in 74-75, though? It's weird that monomer's car was sold as a "1972 300d." Guess it was just re-badged and then someone got confused about the year?

It's being sold of a higher-end used car lot, on commission of one of the workers friends, so it could have gotten mixed up

we'll see as soon as I look the title over.
