Great fuel saving ideas

I read the post about fuel costs, and man, they are really getting outta hand, with diesel at like, $3.79/gallon.

Here's some thing you can do to help reduce demand.....

1) I just wrote a few congressmen. I'm advocating each county make their own biodiesel for fleets, like school buses. I mean, it costs like what, $1,000 to get set up to make biodiesel, and in bulk, they can make it for 70 cents per gallon. If a county has 100 school buses running 5 days a week, this is a very, very sensible idea. We're reducing the money we're sending to Saudi Arabia, and our air will be cleaner.

2) Telecommute. Why do thousands of people go to work .... so they answer phones or be on the computer in a cubicle? Employers an save TONS of money on not leasing space. They can direct the calls to the employees homes. No expenditures on fuel, employees are more rested, less stressed out, and happier. It's a win-win-win.

3) Write your congressman. As it stands now, people are required to go to court, for stupid reasons, like traffic court, to say one of 3 things: guilty, not guilty, or No Lo Contendre. Even drunk drivers are required to show up. And they DRIVE to get there, whether they lost their license or not. The legal system enjoys being in power and telling people, "You are required to show up in court". ....Have them use the TELEPHONES.

4 ) Carpool

Thanks for listening.

That's a great idea for many folks, but to give you a "Yeah, but..." I work at a defense contractor, and can tell you that taking classified or CAD/CAM work home will always be a no-go.

Court attendance might be mandatory where you are, but in GA, it's not necessarily required, depending on the charge/severity. For example, for the two speeding tickets I had in the last twelve years, I simply paid before the court date since I didn't contend them. For something like that, there would be no reason to show up and say "guilty."

Except that you likely overpaid. Show up and your chances of plea bargaining the ticket to something much lower and costing much less are good. My last ticket was for $200 for 75 in a 55, I showed up and it was plea bargained down to too fast for conditions and $65. :)

You need to put your 240d engine back in, It'll be easier to avoid the 75mph range of the spedometer. :)

Well, I just replaced my '82 240D thermostat last week. Heater was pretty feeble and the temp guage was reading 40C or lower. Now it gets toasty and the guage stays around 80C. I'm hoping there's an MPG improvement.

Happy Motoring, Mark

For those about to recharge their AC systems for summer, retrofit with Envirosafe or Duracool and you will save about 2 to 3 Miles Per Gallon!:D
The lower pressures that make our AC systems operate result in great gains in fuel economy!:D
