Guess you can get diesel in Mexico for about $2/gallon. Know a guy who filled up there recently. Nice if you live near the border.

On the plus side, if this lasts you may actualy be able to buy a MB diesel at market value! So it could be good! I'd love to see 2005 CDI's go for low 20's like the rest of them! I'd buy one and be happy as a pig in mud.

Diesle Fuel Price Dilema
It is a simple mechanical solution.
Your high fuel prices are protected by the oil company lobbyists wrapped around your congresspersons kneecaps. Remove the lobbyists.(And strangle,Slowly) Allow your congresspersons to internalize your pain through their kneecaps. Diesel prices realign to fit costs of "Cat Cracking" in real world refining. Oil Companies and their stockholders experience "Negative Wind" Monetarily. BWTFC (But Who The F*** Cares) [About the stockholders or O.C.] |

It think the opposite is likely to occur. More interest in 'alternative fuel' and the price entry point for a used mercedes versus a newish MB, VW or big three diesel pickup means that there will be more speculation in 'vintage' diesel mercedes IMHO.

I think the same will be true for all kinds of interesting gassers that get crappy fuel mileage (as the price of gas catches up with diesel). If you don't care about fuel prices, there may be plenty of good deals out there.

Yep, a lot of W126 gassers will be selling for low low low prices. Great way to pick up a powerful nice Sunday driver for cheap.

This is true. No way in hell you can run veggie in the new diesels. Hopefully unleaded will follow. What will the market be for veggie burning models then?

or you could go with Biodiesel now and get it for about $3.23 a gallon at your local BQ9000 retailer and tell dino diesel to shove where the sun don't shine! Or maybe just make a deal with Dunkin Doughnuts for their WVO!

I wish we had biodiesel out here, there is some more toward LA but thats to far to drive. i have come to realize driving a diesel is getting really expensive. i think that i have decided to go go a motorcycle. my plan is to keep the benz for when it rains but drive the bike during the good weather.

Not aware of BD available in any concentration around here, but if it sold for $3.23 it might not sell very well. Dino is only $3.26 at Wally right now, so have not had much incentive to really look too hard for the BD.
By the way, for those so incensed about the oil Co's, why not just buy stock in several of them and take part in all of the "amazing profits"? Truth of the matter is that the speculators, along with very much increased demand in China and India have way more to do with the price of OIL and therefore gasoline and Diesel than the "big oil Co's".

Arrgh.. There is one BD retailer here in the Tacoma, WA area, but they were already over $4/gal even before petro diesel cleared $3.50!
I shudder to think what it's hitting, now that petro is now flirting with the $4 mark as well. With the current pricing on diesel, I'm going to be seeing what I can eek out of the SEC once it's on the road, just to see how my cost effectiveness breaks down. Not likely all that good, but it can't be all that much worse, at these prices!
