Tach/Sensor question

What is the end of the wire that goes from the relay to the little bracket above the crank supposed to look like? Mine looks like a bunch of shredded copper wire. Oh, my tach doesn't work.

Thanks

Compare the pic to what you have, this is what it should look like. You may need a new sensor: Select Brand

Chances are the bracket that holds the sensor is out of adjustment & the pin in the harmonic balancer has hit the sensor breaking it. There's lots of fine copper wire inside it. When you put in a new sensor, be sure to turn the engine by hand to see if there is clearance between the sensor & pin. Also, make sure the pin is still in the balancer. It may have been dislodged when it hit the sensor. I did this recently while adjusting the a/c belt tension. My pry bar accidently hit the tach sensor bracket bending it down. When I cranked the engine sparks flew off the bracket from the pin hitting it. Needless to say the sensor was trashed, with lots of fine copper wire hanging out. A trip to the pick & pull had it fixed after bending the bracket back where it belonged.
