HELP --- Calipers need to be replaced????

So, mine must be a short........maybe???
The light didn't come on much today....bought a set of pads on my way to work; left work early.....come home.......and low and behold:

So, naturally when I pulled the front right wheel off, I noticed how thin my brake pad is......hmmm....maybe the brake pad wear indicator was right. So, I've never done brakes....and I'm prying with a screwdriver to get the pad to retract, but I'm prying between the pad and caliper. And the thin metal part of the caliper comes off.

Do I need to replace the caliper or will the caliper repair kit be enough? When I pryed on the other side, the caliper did release and I got the old pad out.

HELP!!!! This is my first brake pad replacement.

The thin metal part you are referring to could be the shims for the pads...

It looks like the left most circle in this picture of the Caliper Repair Kit

And the inside of the right wheel was worse and I didn't pry on it. Have to wonder if the pad bound on it as I was "beating" it in. Well, I learned on the right side and I did the left side correctly in about 30 minutes. That's about par for the course, right, golfers, I mean guys?

It wasn't a stream, only a drainage creek, and the road was only flooded to ~4" depth for about 10 feet with no current. I was waxing poetic when I called my driving through it "fording"

However, I did raise a pretty good wave and gave the brakes a good washing, thus causing my before mentioned brake indicator light problem.

Well, right or wrong, I managed to bend the metal piece into a respectful form and put the brake pads on. Then got my wife to come out and press on the pedal while I bled the lines. I had taken the caliper off thinking that would make it easier to get the metal piece back in there. The caliper is a Bendix and best I can tell, it looks like this metal piece is between the back of the brake pad and the rubber of top of the caliper piston.

Anyway, I'll know tomorrow.....and the brake sensors....they did their job and then died. I'll be ordering 4 more tomorrow.

Last time I did that (accidentally in TX during a downpour), I ended up replacing my alternator.
