Excellent "mod", every SDL owner should do this.

I just removed all the vacuum lines, and switch's related to the EGR and ARV. So I got rid of that black boa running across the front of the engine, and a spiders web of vacuum lines below the air cleaner. It took about 15 minutes and I had a pile of useless crap on the ground when I was done. The engine bay looks much cleaner, and there are less vacuum parts to leak! Which as these cars age is a good thing! Now I just need to order the three way connector(601-078-06-45), the Golf tee's I have blocking the 5 way look like crap.

Every SDL owner should do this, its so simple. Throw in one of Brians EGR kids and that side of the engine starts to look like it should. I doubt you will see any performance difference by getting rid of the ARV, but its simply not needed anymore. All of the vacuum connectors were crispy, so it was only a matter of time before I would have had a new vacuum leak to track down.

Anyone know if its possible to totaly get rid of the ARV itself? It looks like its part of the turbo housing, I don't think a simple plate will work this time.

I have that same box of parts out in the garage. I already have the 3 way connector, I don't golf. I'm not sure if Brian wants any of his kids under your hood though.

Now that you have all that stuff gone, you should remove the airflow sensor as well.

Supposedly the intake snorkel (flex tube) from a 300D or 300SD fits perfectly in place.

Air mass sensor? I can't find airflow sensor. I can't get a picture of the air mass sensor to come up under buy parts.

Last I heard GSXR didn't really see any dyno gains with it gone. I don't really want to mess with the intake to involved.

Could somebody please clarify exactly what parts you would be removing and what their purposes are? What are the benefits other than visual for removing this stuff?

Yeah I wondered the same thing awhile back about the airflow sensor, mine has been in the whole time but my vacuum bits are already gone. I thought about blocking it open but decided against it.

Whats the consensus on it? keep it or lose it?

I don't really see a benifit. The air intake is pretty big on these cars, I don't think anything is lost.

Any restriction is a bad thing. It may not add much resistance but it still has some.
