I wouldn't unless you had a 300D sitting next to it, even then its going to be hard because a W123 is pretty different from a W124.

You need to find a 1986-87 300D that has been hit hard in the rear, and do the swap, that should be more or less drop in...except you will need an SLS pump.

Yeah I thought about that stuff....if we do buy it it will be to put it back to a 300TE...gasser. If the price is right maybe I will work on the existing engine....if it just had an oil leak then it should be re-assemble-able. Otherwise....I am talking to someone about a 1985 300D beater that needs some TLC....but its save-able. Whether we buy it or not depends on if he'll come down in price from 1500 to 650 that I offered. (I subtracted all the things it needs from the original price and offered that to him)

if it just has a "major" oil leak, what can it be? Its just a seal somewhere, remove the engine and replace it

Its a 1989 300te wagon.....I already have a tranny....all I'd need is an engine....how hard would this be, and is it even possible?
Im not sure this is actually going to be that hard, I may be attempting a similar swap myself, for a friend.

I will be swapping an 85 TD into an 88 TE, and i am not forseeing to much difficulty.

Ill let you know if i proceed. thx.

hhmmmm. this sounds like an interesting idea, now that I have a complete drivetrain from my 85 300TD.
Still like the idea of a Suburban powered by it.

A suburban weighs like a million tons, that poor engine/tranny would barely be able to move the truck let alone stuff in it or behind it! Have mercy on that drivetrane.

As for the 300TE, we might go look at it and see what the deal is with the engine....maybe I could just replace all the seals and put it back together/into the car. Then we'd have a nice wagon!

Oh that suburban would be fine as long as you have enough gear to work with.

I suppose, but what if you had 6 people onboard and a boat behind it....you'd be pushing 3500rpm at 55mph to maintain speed....

Thumbs up

That's a $200-400 car, tops.

M103s are a joke to rebuild, I did mine over a few months working on a few rides. If you need some pointers, PM or IM me. I can do the stuff in 1/3 of the time now. Fine motors when fully functional.
