HELP!Oil Leak!
Hey everyone, new member here. I bought a 1984 300sd from an guy in southern indiana 2 weeks ago. No rust except for a little bit around the rear window frame and in overall decent shape. 270k miles on it. I paid $1500 for it, it had been sitting in a field for over a year. I put a new battery in it, some farm diesel in the tank and it fired right up. It made the 4 hour drive home (highway and city traffic) back home to Chicago.
Now that I have had time to look at it there are a few things that I need help with but most importantly I am having a problem with the oil leak. The previous own had put in an aftermarket air intake system. There is also an aftermarket oil seperator. The tube from the bottom of the oil seperator is not connected anywhere. This is where ALOT of the oil is leaking from. I know, after reading the forums that this is supposed to be connected to the drain tube (next to the turbo) that connected to the original air filter system. But that tube isnt there! I guess he removed it but now I cannot find where this pipe coming from the bottom of the oil seperator is supposed to go! Any help would be greatly appreciated. |

The original pipe came down around the turbo, and entered the bottom of the block right next to the turbo drain. as in between the turbo drain and the block. Look there for a plug of some sort. then fab up a return!

Take lots of pictures so we can check out what he did. I am hoping he did not epoxy the hole shut.
For now, if you need to drive the car, maybe you can rig up something that would goesinto a can or something to catch the oil. I would not pour it back into the engine, but at least it is not all lever the place.

thanks guys. I will take some pictures and post them here. Is it possible to purchase the proper (oem) drain pipe? I will like to eventually put it back to stock with the stock air filter assembly. I really dont like the aftermarket stuff.

if you want the original set up go to a junk yard and find one. while your at it you can pick up the drain tube. It shouldn't cost that much under $100. Clean the engine off real good to see if there are any other leaks.

Ok i ran out during my lunch break to look and find out where the drain tube connects to the block. I didnt see any bolt or epoxy on the block near the "turbo oil return line". But I did see a bolt on the block, by the turbo itself underneath the exhaust manifold. Could this be the location? I checked around the actual tube that goes straight down from the turbo into the oil pan but I didnt see anything around there. I guess pictures will help but I have to wait till tonight...
