Now I know what would happen if my cars could mate, and smoked crack during the pregnancy... I'd hope the offspring would come out with euro bumpers no rice burner slap on crap.

I could see myself driving it, even with a hood scoop! Of course I'd have to paint it wine red and the little grill on the hood scoop black!

LOL, make that orange and flat black like one of those silly 70s dodges (whatever they were called), maybe it needs a bigger wing too.

I would drive it, but the wing and scoop need to be burned.

That was the Plymouth Barracuda. No, wine red, it is a mercedes after all. Flat black for the hood scoop grill to accent the Turbo on the 617! As for the wing, a series of bright LED's in a line mounted right into the wing for the 3rd brake light would be kinda cool. Look at it this way, I've seen a lot of SL series coupe's with great bodies and tired engines! It's different being a diesel, but it's another old Mercedes Benz given a new lease on life and someone will want it!

Meh. Not like the 3.8 liter V8 was a great engine. Low power, high fuel consumption. Might as well haev a diesel.

wheres the $$$ shot?...I want to see the engine bay. Anyway, I like it, A diesel engine into ANY car is fine by me.

Maybe the hood scoop was necessary to clear the valve cover...

but its WAY out of my price range.

Maybe it's to feed a top mount intercooler.

I am a sucker for these oddball dieselizations.

I wouldn't mind one without the scoop and wing. I bet the color is not original either.

Anything over bout 7 or 8K though is probably too much to pay....the cost of a parts sl and a good diesel....That would have to be a fresh one done right.

Then the possibility of ever selling it and getting your money back is the problem.

Didnt some of the 380SL's come with 5-spd sticks ?

There is my holy grail, OM617, 5spd, convertible..... I'd rock it in spite of the scoop. (the wing would have to go though)

The hood scoop is a joke. But for under $2k it would probably make one heck of a cheap driver.

The 3.8L V8 wasn't anything special, only about 150hp. So the 617 shouldn't be that much slower.

True, but it would be really hard to drive with a paper bag over your head.
