SF Bay area folks...

I am moving to the Bay Area. I haven't decided for sure, but I may be bringing my 300SD, or I may be selling it here where people will tolerate my rust.

If I do bring it with. What am I in for in the way of emissions tests?

Diesels are smog exempt.

We arent used to rust here; you may be better off leaving it behind.

any rust will make the car hard to sell here in CA. your competition won't have any rust.

Yea, I have definitely thought about that. The question is whether I ever want to sell it or not

I think to myself that I could always buy a different one out there, but this one has already had a bunch done for it and the engine and tranny are in great shape... you know... "the devil you know best..."

how bad is the rust? if its not bad then i wouldn't even think about selling the car. I know how it is to get attached to these things. and i wouldn't leave mine behind. if the rust isn't that bad, you can fix it once you get here. and know it won't come back!

By the way, do you find that decent 123's, 116's and 126's can be found at reasonable prices out there? Looking at craigslist, it seems like there are quite a few.

The rust is mainly on the rockers - there is rust-through by the jack points, and then a little bubbling on one of the doors. Nothing serious underneath Not bad by Wisconsin standards, but probably bad by Cali standards.

its easy to pick up a car here in CA. also very easy to fix one. going to a wrecking yard here in CA is like going to a candy store. (compared to most places)

What area are you moving to? If you decide to sell or keep let us know and we can guide you on where to look for P n Ps or even keep an eye out for cars in the area depending on what you decide.

Just noticed you have a diesel and a Moped... your gonna have to meet Zack (Boardmonger) him and his crew live in Cupertino and are ether driving MB diesels or riding Mopeds.
