Question ONE tire wearing funny W123

On my 1981 240D, the front right tire is wearing out on the inner treads.

All three other wheels are wearing evenly.

The car runs, handles OK & has about 103,000 miles on it.

Thanks for any suggestions.

Could be tie rods, could be center link, could be ball joint, could be upper control arm....

I am looking in my crystal ball, but I can't get the answer.....I suspect this is one where the owner needs to crawl under and inspect the suspension.....

Its a w126 but it basic description of how to check the front end...

I would expect it to be too much negative camber on that wheel.

How do you adjust camber on one front wheel?

Kind of figured it was an alignment issue, but most of the threads on the forum deal with both front wheels.

Can the camber on just one wheel be adjusted, and if so how?

Thanx.

Tire Tilt Tire wear
"Sagging upper control arm bushings will cause the camber to become negative, resulting in inner edge tire wear."

thanks for the advice

The camber adjustment and sagging upper control arms sound like things to look into, appreciate the suggestions.

Upper control arm/balljoint/swaybar bushings... ALL result in inner tread wear.

Does the car go straight if you let go of the wheel, or does it follow the worn tire? If it goes straight, it is most likely the camber, and it should be out to the point that you can see the tire tilting in at the top. If the camber looks OK and the car wants to steer to the side of the worn tire, you have a caster problem, i.e., the offending tire does not have enough positive caster. Failing either of these cases, you could have a tire problem. Rotate front to rear and see what happens. One of the Bridgestones on my signature car had this issue- if on the RF, the car would pull to the right, and if on the LF, if would go to the left. I put it on the rear and didn't worry about it until I replaced them with a set of Michelins.

thanks for further suggestions.

The car does not seem to pull one way or the other, a couple of different tires have worn the same way. so now I feel like I can pinpoint the problem.

That's good to know, my car pulls to the right, a lot to the point that I have a cockeyed steering wheel....I know I have some serious worn steering components and need an alignment....but I noticed the drivers tire wearing ever so slightly on the inner side....not horrible bad.....I was under the car and looked at the sway bar.....I seen maybe a 1/4 gap above the sawybar on the firewall bushing under the brake booster.....indicating bad bushings there.....so I linked that to the inner tire wear.....

Looks just like this but mines a bit bigger....and related thread....so check that area too.....

Did a search on "noise trunk" then "sway bar" and wind up following cooljjay again!

What are the odds of that?
