Not trying to scare you or anything, but I ran out of oil at 85mph, and it took about 5-10k miles for the knocking to show up. I think mine was run longer without oil pressure though... Instead of going straight to zero, mine was fluctuating between 3 and 0 when I caught it.

On a later trip, after about 200 miles at 85, as I exited the interstate I noticed a slight knocking... over the last year or two it has slowly worsened to the point where it is blatantly obvious.

I've lived in TX since 1968. I have never slammed on the brakes during a hydroplane. I have yet to figure out why the idiots (usually SUV drivers and city dwellers) slam on the brakes. I guess the forgot drivers education 101.

Are you steering with your knee? Smoking + drinking coffee has been shown to dramatically increase sudden heart attack risk. Then the body's oil pressure gauge falls to 0. And humans seem to have just as bad of results from that as an engine run w/out oil...

Actually, I was just making a point. It is easy to say that you are going to religiously watch your gauges but a lot of things can come up to take your attention away from your gauges (every week we have several threads concerning not charging and dead battery; no one seems to have noticed the red no charging light being on).
I do not drink coffee, smoke or even own a Cell Phone; but most of the people I see on the road at least have a Cell Phone in their ear at all times. Unfortunately I do have Arthritis and sinus headaches and the thing that gives me the best relief for both is Excedrin; which has a lot of Caffeine in it.
I have worked in Hospitals during part of my life and I have a good Idea how miserable a death someone can have and I am not one of those folks that believes “it will never happen to me”. I can only hope that what ever I die from it will be “sudden”.

Dump those junk lines for the right ones before you blow the engine. I would have given up and rented a car by now.

The part is in. I will put it one Monday! Not much I can do, other than watch my oil pressure gauge like a hawk, until then.

Why even share this bit of information? Are you trying to give me heart problems?

Taking that long for a knock to show up seems strange to me, personally. Are you talking about the 92 300d with 300k? If you have that many miles on an engine not as brawny as the 617 it may just be in entering its twilight years.

I think that's what I'll tell myself.

Hell, I'd say the overall average on this forum is under 250k. Its pretty rare to see a non-617 (and most 617s for that matter) with over 350k in a sig. I'm sure many members will prove will post and prove me wrong.

Dropped the car off for her hose installation Tuesday. Got her back this afternoon. What a relief. I went ahead and got both the upper and lower hoses replaced, so I don't have to worry about it for a long time. The bill was $400.00, but he also replaced an engine shock while he was there.

I would have had the car yesterday, but after he intalled the "new" lower hose, the oil started spewing out from a tear. Mo didn't charge me for the extra labor, but it did piss him off.

Happy to have Ol' Turbo back. She taking me to Lawrence tomorrrow!
