Flasher Relay in W123

Can anyone tell me where exactly the turn signal flaher relay is located on a W123? I know it's supposed to be under the dash somewhere, but I poked around and couldn't find it. Is it to the right or left of the steering colum? Up close or towards the engine compartment?

It's actually under the center console, just forward of the shifter. I beleive the e flasher switch plugs directly into it; just follow the sound of the clicking. I THINK I have an extra if you need it. Let me know. Thanks.

I always forget the year change on the 123's.....but in my 1981, the relay is IN the hazard switch.

I'm sure this doesn't help you.....but if you search the forum, you'll find it. I remember it being pointed out when I did a similar search to replace mine. Just forward of the shifter sounds right, IIRC.

I believe on his its under the console as stated above. Thats where it is in my 85, cost my $40 when it died. On the early 240Ds with the big emergency flasher is in that flasher, guess thats why its bigger.

Yah and twice as expensive

It's like a big red eye staring at me in the dark too....just asking for coffee to be spilled into it.

So do I just remove the entire faceplate to the center consol to get to the relay or is there something I can pop out to get to it?

You need to remove the horizontal wood piece around the shifter. Loosen the front under the ashtray and slid it back to release the back end. The relay is in front of the shift lever.

It should be a black box. I think it might sit on a bracket...

If the hazard switch pushes down to engage, it's the early style and is all of a piece. If it's a rocker switch, then it has the remote black box.

Changeover year is <=81 is push style, >= 82 is rocker/remote.

Everyone here is correct. And PLEASE, after removing the two screws and ashtray bracket, gently slide the console cover back - not up. If you pull it up, you will break off the plastic pin at the back of the cover!
