Talking 1983 Mercedes benz 300d needs a good servicing!

I WANT TO SAY HEY TO EVERYONE its been such a long time and as far on the news about my cars, the 83 need a bad tune up and the 85 still have a tiny bit of play in the wheel but is controllable.

Im here today in asking what i should do for my 83 tune up project. this car needs it so bad. little to no acceleration. needs new diesel filters the primary still the original one...yes i know, i have one but i forget what to do, car is very dirty when starts. needs about everything. even possibly a valve adjustment, i need to atleast check them.

Well to make things simple what do YOU do to tune your benz up? and what could i do to make it faster.

After you change both fuel filters and do the valve adjustment, follow this pictorial by Diesel Giant.

http://www.dieselgiant.com/mercedesaldaboostsystemservi.htm

It wouldn't hurt to read up on some of these procedures on the forum. All of the info you seek is also in the archives. Use google as the search engine with Mercedes-Shop as the domain name.

You need a BAD tune up on your 123? Why not a GOOD tune up?

You have no idea how many times I started to post something like that and decided against it.

I have this uncontrollable urge to point out poor grammar. I think it was passed on to me genetically from my mother, the English major.

Plus, I'm a smart ass . . . . beats being a dumb ass, though.

Be sure to loosen the top bolt on the big filter, the filter won't come off if you try just turning the filter first. Check the banjo bolt coming out of the intake manifold by taking it off and cleaning it out. Disconnect and blow out the plastic line and if the plastic is too hard, replace it. New air filter, check your valves twice.

sounds like you have it covered.
change the filters. (remember to fill the spin on with fuel first!)
adjust the valves (get new V/C gasket before you start this)
inspect the injector return lines and replace if leaking
give it a good solid 2nd gear high rpm drive to clean out the combustion chambers (italian tuneup)

spark plug brother and sisters

Can we reserve the word "tune up" for our gasser brother and sisters.

I always think of a tune up of involving spark plugs.

While your at it check the over boost limit hose and fitting. Also might want to adjust the ALDA if is really slow off the line.
