300SD Replacing Rear Trailing Arm
 

I need to replace the Rear Trailing Arm driver side on my 1984 300SD and I read few threads to see how difficult it will be.
I have not pneumatics tools but I do have sockets, combination and other basic tools including floor jack, jack stand, etc.
One of the main concern is about removal of the coil spring without spring compressor, removal of rusted bolts and nuts and also the risk of separation of the shaft from differential to wheel.
I was reading the article on this link: http://www.peachparts.com/Wikka/W126RearShocksSprings but as I don't see anything about "compression spring" I was wondering if using this method will not be necessary to use this tool to remove and replace the spring.
My trailing is cracked due the rust and the whell is not longer straight.
Any help will be really apreciated.

support the car on stands, raise the T arm slightly w/ a floor jack, unhook shock @ top, slowly release the jack.

if you have SLS, dont forget to unhook the lines to the struts.

I'd do both sides, and all the rubber bushings while your at it. I did everything- brakes(Park and service) brake lines, sway links, body mounts, T arm bushings, Diff mount, wheel bearings,etc... oh- and 2 new tires cause I had ruined the ones running the bent T arm so long(I had welded up a patch) all in all, about $950. and 3 days. this was in my MBZ newbie days, now I could almost do it all in a day.

At the time to slide out the arm, how to disconnect it from rear axle without remove the axle from differential? Will the hub be free from axle after removing the M12 bolt allowing to just slide arm and hub from axle?
I have read carefully your post and it was great.
I have the part ordered which will be arriving probably this weekend and I am looking for more information about this job.
