New BlueTec-Hybrid buses in NYC?

I stumbled across this article from the NY Times. Apparently NYC is thinking of changing its bus fleet over to MB BlueTec-Hybrids!

MB has been making hybrid buses since the 60's and 70's.

Interesting...

NYC MTA has run diesel electric hybrid buses for at leat three years. They would run past where Iworked. They also run natural gas/electric hybrids and both diesel and nat gas conventional buses.

I guess it is the bling factor that made got this article written.

I can imagine one of those running through the So. Bronx. The star would last 1/2 a block!

Yeah, I guess I'm (pleasantly) surprised that they're going with MB instead of an American company. Must be for the bling factor. Those MB buses sure look nice...

Now, if NYC really wanted to be green, they'd run them on biodiesel.

I think they have a bioD plant up and running in Staten Island. I know they get their Nat gas from the dump there.
I can see the sign on the bus now...

NYC Transit running on yesterday's garbage!
