I would think it would be extremely difficult with the wheel still on. The shocks I have bought came with a thin walled 10mm 3/8 drive socket for the lower bolts.

In the time you've spent making and reading this thread you could have lifted up the front end and removed the wheels already.

I agree, with an emphasis on the "Thin walled" part.
Only one wrench I owned would fit that bolt.
