bilstein HDs with a 240d?
Does anyone ride a 240d with bilstein HDs?
I have a friend who is willing to give me his for free (not many miles on it). I was hearing conflicting stories since the 240d is a lot lighter than the 300d it would be a VERY harsh ride. And then I heard that the HDs are fine on the 240. I want better handling but I don't want to my ride to severely suffer. Thanks for any replies! -Paolo M

If I were buying them I would buy standards, but if free I would install the hd,
There is not that much difference imho. Tom W

I have HDs on my 240D, I like them. The 240D isn't that much lighter than the 300D. If you drive on rough roads, you might find the HDs too harsh.

If I were buying I would get comforts. If they were free I would have no problem with the HD's........

I think it really depends what kind of roads you drive on, the HDs are great on smooth roads.

Thanks for the replies. I live in LA and the roads aren't that bad. But I have also heard people putting HDs in front and Comforts in the rear. I wonder how that would feel like.

Any difference in handling between the HDs and comforts? I need a set soon myself.

It will still wallow in the corners with the HD shocks... its not like it'll transform the big 3700 pound 70's car into a modern sports car. Might as well get the comfort ones.

I prefer the HDs in my 126s.

I have HD's all around and on Michigan roads you'd better hold on tight! Might lose grip on the steering wheel from all the vibration and shock!

I think his description of the steering wheel shaking is pretty overblown.
The plastic links make no difference over the metal ones in handling. Tom W

Had HDs in a 240 manual, and would never use anything else. $.02
