So a nice member of this wonderful forum is going to be checking out this SDL for me in the coming week or two. He had test driven it 3 months ago and he said the trans slipped bad, but this has allegedly been fixed since his last visit. I was wondering if there was any sort of prepurchase inspection list floating around there for the SDLs? Or if you just want to post common issues with the cars that would be great! So far i am aware of the cracking head (if overheated) issue with the 603s. What intake runner do you look under to see if its a #17 or above head again? Car has 303k on it

Look between #2 and #3. It is hard to see as it is under the crossover tube. You will see a number with the head version kind of in the middle

like so...
XXX HH XXXX

I think if you do a search for prepurchase and SDL you will see a lot of posts on multiple things to look for.

I almost thought it was this same car I've seen on CL for quite a while.87 300SDL
But they seem to have different interiors so they're not same.

Make sure the trap oxidizer recall has been done- should not be a metal football on the right side of the engine with a tube running through it. However, if it does have the trap ox in place, a dealer will do the recall for you, for free.

(I know from experience with my 87 300SDL, which had inexplicably made it to 2004 without the recall)
