Water/diesel separator

I've been getting some really bad diesel lately, so after looking at my choices and other peoples ideas I found a cheap easy fix. I ordered a wix filter housing that will fit Baldwin and those 2 micron cat filters. The housing was $28 and the Baldwin filter with the drain is $16. It will be here all wednesday. I figured it would cost me at least $30 for the tap and banjo bolt to make my sock filter housing work.

Are you putting it on the suction or pressure side of the Fuel Supply/Lift Pump.

Years ago I installed a Racor filter/separator in a Perkins diesel in a Vega project. I was burning Mexican diesel that was absolutely horrible - more like pea soup than anything else. I used an electric pump to bring the fuel to the Racor which then went to the normal filter. The system also used an aux tank and the fuel was filtered as it was transferred into the primary tank. Bad fuel can definitely ruin your whole day.

In contrast I've now got 65-70k miles on my current pre filter and primary filter with no loss of pressure but I use a known good local source and on the road only use name brand truck stop diesel.

I haven't decided. The housing has four ports so I could just replace the the sock housing. When the set up gets here I'll post some pics. I looked at the racor systems but to pricey for my taste. I feel that this will be best bang for the buck.

If you replace the stock Housing you will need to make up another 3 Way connector (Blue Arrow) for the return lines/hoses.

I've had a Racor water separator for over 30 years on my diesels. Nothing new here.

Looking forward to seeing what you come up with.

I bought a Racor 500 "equivalent" Chinese knockoff and had planned to use that as the primary filter, and do Diesel911's bushing mod to my stock secondary filter location so I can use CAT 2 micron filters. Other priorities came up, but it is still very much on the list.

Same here, I use the Racor 200FG on my 82 Datsun Diesel PU for the past 34 year and 400+ thousand miles.

I have one on the 80 240D as well. It replaced the Pre-Filter. Just run the hose to the Racor, then to the lift Pump.
The Racor has the water trap sediment bowel, and the filters come in
2 micron, 10 micron and I think 15 micron.

I ran into a problem. I didn't have the right fittings for my fuel line so I had to put it on hold until today. I'll have pictures up after class's. I'm not supper happy with where the mounting is but it good for now.
