How do I re-install the evaporator box straps?
I can't get them to sit up farther in the firewall like in dmorrison's DIY, picture #68. There must be some secret internal hook...finger too small to get in there and feel.

Answered my own question -
The secret hook area is above the hole. Take the strap at the top - about two inches down there is maybe a 30 degree bend in the brass. Increase this angle to around 45 degrees. Then fish the hook some more up in the area you will catch it. The strap must be pointed as vertical into the hole as you can go to catch. Bend the strap a little more if needed. OR dont take it out the first time like I neglected to adhere to :-) Have a great night, hope this helps someone in the future. |
Looking at the step-by-step of this process: http://www.peachparts.com/Wikka/W123Evaporator
brings back fond memories of when I replaced my CC for a manual system. Notice how carefully the shift panel is removed - good job. I have to disagree w/the steering removal, however. It's not necessary. |
