strange no start issue
I just got home from work and had an issue starting.
I went to let her glow and.. the glow plug light did not come on. Nothing new, sometimes it comes on sometimes it doesnt. I go to crank and nothing... no turning over, just cranking.. So I let the starter rest and try again.. nothing. Frustrated I pop the hood and test the fuel system to see if it still has prime. It does. Sometimes she loses prime if I have a low tank and am on an upward incline( both were in play). I checked the glow plug relay fuse and it was fine. So I mess with cranking and resting for 3 more cycles and then she finally fires up... seriosuly.. wtf? She started up just fine this morning in 60F on the second turn. I am going to adjust the valves again today to make sure they did not get tight since last week. Another issue I have is when ever I come home and park the car idles like crap.It idles fine in traffic and when I start but when ever I hit the little culvert/drain it acts up. All this before the gtg!!! I'll use my new volt meter and test the plugs too another thing that could be an issue is maybe a vacuum line to the shut off valve worked its way loose or something. But she shuts down just fine |
No glow plug light + no start = glow system problem.

fuhhhhhhhhh
I'll test the plugs tomorrow.. Plus its a bit unnerving that she wont start cold in 75F temps |
It could be the relay or strip fuse too. I seem to recall hearing of strip fuses with cracks in them causing the symptoms you have. Try replacing it first. :dunce:

yea.. with an invisible one I have laying around....
I knew I should have tossed one in on my last order I just need some 80 amp strip fuse... thats going to be hard to find local |

Yea, Macguyver it.
Dealership is in Lakeland and I need the entire relay. My mechanic is going to bring one to the gtg tomorrow. I'll just test the plugs and bypass the relay. My mom moved my car this morning since she had to go to work and I had parked behind her. I wonder how she fared |
yep, it's the relay. All the plugs tested good. Jumped the relay with a pair of pliers on the hot to the fuse and the glow light still did not light but it turned over and started firing.
I fogged the hood as well... :) I'm off to go wash and detail the car |
