Where to find Wiring Diagrams for 87 300 DT 124

Have an 87 300 DT in the barn, 16 wire instrument cluster plug popped apart accidentally, need wiring diagram to get it back together.

Wiring appears to be VIN specific, so probably are multiple diagrams available.

Would appreciate any assistance in finding wiring diagrams, or what color wires go to what pin number.

Thanks! Hans

Hi Arthur,
Thank you so much for your help.
In my browser (Firefox), it comes up in some sort of computer language - can you tell me what program I need to view your site?
Regards, Hans

It won't open in FireFox for me either. It does work in Internet Explorer.

Reasembling the 17 wire instrument cluster plug

Gentlemen, you are right, it took IE to open the file, however what they gave me (wiring indicators/gauges) was hard to read. What I need is the plug with the 16 or 17 pin numbers and the associated wire color for each pin - is there more there then I am seeing?

Thanks! Hans

anyone got a wrecked '87 300D? if so, you can cut off the plug and send it to the man to use as a reference, the wire colors on the German schematic/wire chart can be confusing. There's nothing like the real thing. The value of one of those plugs is nil
If I had the instrument cluster out I would have a look but disconnecting the speedo and removing the airbag to pull the cluster out is a PITA

No need to pull the airbag....

I can get the IP out every time without pulling airbag/wheel.
Just extend the column out all the way.

Jim

yes, thats possible but I found that working on the cluster, you know balanced on the edge of the opening, you want that steering wheel out of the way.

I've never heard of that before. I've had my cluster out more times than I'd like to admit. I've never pulled my steering wheel. I didn't even pull it when I pulled the dash to do the vacuum pods for the climate control.

Agreed. 124 is less than 5minutes to pull the cluster, no need to pull the steering wheel, and no need to pull the wheel to remove the dash either.

hang on a min fellows, what I did was to replace my 4 pin temp gauge with a 5-pin readoout and I had to swap the pins and wires into the new plug, using the right sequencce (which I had to repeat twice before I got it correct) and that steering wheel in my face made the job nearly impossible. Thats why I removed the wheel, that only added a few minutes to the overall job but it was a lot easier with the thing out of the way.
The fellow that was planning on placing the wires back in the big plug on the cluster might feel differently but me, I'd remove the wheel before that kind of chore.

I'm hangin' with yah. I did the LCD wiring change as well. Once again without removing the steering wheel. I agree with you on removing it if I had to rewire the big plug.
