Emergency Brake - 190D - HELP!

Does anyone know how to tighten the emergency brake cable on a 1984 190D? If I pull the handle all the way up it barely stops the rear wheels. Does anyone know how to tighten the cable? I looked for an adjustment but I couldn't find one. Any help / advice is appreciated. Thanks!

In the driveshaft tunnel under the back half of the car, find the spot where the cable from the parking brake lever splits into two cables (one for the left rear wheel and one for the right rear wheel).

There's a bracket that joins the 3 cable pieces together (see attached drawing). On the rearmost part of the bracket, there's an adjustment screw. Try that and see if it helps.

If that doesn't work, you may have to adjust the brake shoes inside each of the rear wheels.

I would adjust the shoes first then the cable underneath. You may remember, depending on your age ,how to adjust brake shoes, the little rubber plug in back of the brake drum. I this case (at least with W123s, assume yours are the same) you remove a lug bolt and work through that hole to adjust the "E" brake shoes.
