LOL! Yeah the weld didn't look that good, did it?

It actually did look like bird droppings or candle drippings.

You could make some money from us here in America if shipping could be done reasonably.

I discovered that the shifter from a W201 fits a W123. It only needs two new bolt holes drilled on the hump to install it. I have one as a spare shifter for my Euro W123 and was curious to see if it would fit. It's only slightly different from the W123 shifter which actually has a 126 prefix. I didn't try attaching the shift rods though but they appear as they would without any problem.

Wink If A=B and B=C then A=C.

If a W123 shifter fits a W115 then a W201 shifter should fit a W115.

If all things go well.....I'll find out soon enough. Not one step in the conversion has bee made without some sort of unforseen complication

I wonder if the linkages from a W201 are the same length for a W123 and or W115. If they need only lengthening or shortening....bingo!

Did you buy the linkages with the shifter from the W201 to compare?

Yes the linkages came with it. I only checked one so far and it was shorter so I didn't bother with the others.

So you compared the shift rods to a 240D W123 manual trans and they were too short? Any idea roughly the length they would need to be lengthened to fit the 4 speed?

I have a 230CE. I don't know if my rods are longer or shorter than a 240D.
