Klunk! on 1st gear downshift
Just did the B-2 piston and K-1 spring kit in my 84 300D. Trans now shifts great, but I get a drivline "klunk" - only when comming to a stop and the trans shifts down into 1st. No other shift issues or noises. Adjusted the bowden cable & checked the flex joint. Que pasa?

Low vacuum. Check for a vacuum leak. You can sometimes determine if the leak is in your climate control system by pushing the far right button and seeing if downshifts improve.

Thanks, Kerry - I'll try that. I know I have a vac leak somewhere - power locks used to be real slow but now are inop. Stay tuned.....

Unplug the yellow vacuum line under the hood and stick a golf tee in it's place. That will disconnect your door lock system. It could easily solve your problem.

I've heard it can be caused by a leaky vac modulator on the transmission. I will be replacing mine to see if it improves my shifts/clunk when slowing down.

I'll try plugging the yellow line & see if that makes a diff., Kerry. The c/control button did nothing. Post your results when you do your mod.valve, pawoSD - OK?

First...I need to find my mity vac (lost it in the garage somewhere...)...and see if the modulator holds vacuum or not....it probably doesn't, but whatever. It shifts fine from 1-2, 2-3, weak 3-4 shift (always has) and has the clunk when slowing down. Been that way for 63k with no change.
