A new twist for a stripped T/C drain

After fighting with and losing to an easily stripped torque convertor drain plug, I remembered an old shade tree method. I wrapped the 5 mil hex with a piece of a paper shop towel and using a small machinist ball peen hammer, tapped it into the plug. Gave the ratchet a pull and heard the delightful sound of the plug breaking the torque. The same method can be used to keep nuts in a socket for those hard to reach places. Just remember to start the nut by hand to prevent crossthreading.

Paper shop towel, I haven`t heard of that before. valve grinding compound will work also. thanks for the info.

um, explain this in more detail. please...
stripped to me indicates that the nut turns but does not tighten...
I think you are describing a situation where the bolt will not turn due to socket damage...

i think he is talking about the female part of hex heads that wear out from improper seating of the hex wrench.

the shop towel will make the hex wrench a bit bigger.

79300sdtd is correct, I am refering to the 5 mil female hex as being rounded off to the point where the 5 mil male bit will just rotate with out making enough contact to handle any torque.
