According to all the BMW guys at the show a diesel should be avalible in every model soon.

Fantastic! A 330D with the sport package and SMG trans, M3 handling with Prius fuel consumption.

Or a 535D like this:

Its pretty quick as you can see.:D:cool:

Its a heck of a lot faster than a MB, unless MB decided to bring over their V8 diesels.:D

What engine is that? If thats an I6 thats impressive.

man, it must be tough to come to the US after driving like that. I hope they buy good tires.

I think I'd rather have a somewhat slow diesel C- or E- class with manual everything. I know, never happen.

Styler_Colfax 04-01-2008 10:01 PM

Very quick
I want to move back.....I worked there a while

Its an I6. I LOVE that thing! It sounds so awesome (diesels that defy their character in both acoustics and performance).

Why can't Mercedes make a six like that these days? For their time, the 60x diesels were the most powerful in the world (power per displacement) when they were first introduced. The BMW 535D's engine, IMHO, is the true successor to the 603/606 engines.:D

Cool vid. But weird, because it's a right-hand drive model. I thought German market cars were all lefties.

turbobenz 04-02-2008 02:17 AM

Personally I would never buy a bmw diesel. Remember the 80's diesels they made? Junk compared to an mb. The fact that mercedes keeps pushing diesels in the us despite the emission laws, rising cost of diesel, and their bad image makes me feel like they really are confident in what there doing. I dont think bmw has sold a diesel here since the 80's, but I may be wrong

No Fun

1.Either so P.O.d I couldn't enjoy the performance.
(costs Too Much to rent the track)
OR
2.Driver's License gone in the first day.
(And you know GSP would write you up for "attempting to elude",when they
had to scramble a rotary wing to catch up to you.)

None of that would apply on Georgia's Official Race Track I-285

I too am looking forward to the arrival of the BMW diesels. I think they are a great engine (the 3.0 twin turbo) with LOADS of torque. That engine in a little 3 series will really be fun. I used to have an 05 M3, and that car definetely confirmed the statement "Bmw builds the better engine, but MB builds the better car".

Not likely. The 6- and 7-Series will probably not get the diesels.

amg280 04-02-2008 05:26 PM

The six series currently does have a diesel, the 635. I just read a review on it. It probably wont come to the states though, so you are right on that front.

The review kind of hinted that it wasnt the best chassis:engine match.

BMW has a new 7 coming down the pipeline, they were probably talking about the new one.

gatorblue92 04-02-2008 08:45 PM

if the price is right i would spring for one of those

Hatterasguy 04-02-2008 08:48 PM

I would guess about $55k, probably a bit more since the dollar is so weak.

BMW tacks on a lot of dumb options, like active steering, navi, flappy gear box. Usualy the base versions with just the sport and maybe premium package are the way to get them.
